This song started as a challenge to myself. I had just written "The Poet" and a couple of other songs. I was on a roll, but out of subject matter. I decided to just pick a catchy phrase and try writing a song around it. My wife, Jacky, is from Maine, and of course, "You can't get there from here" is a Maine classic. The opportunities for humor seemed endless, so I decided to go with it.
When I write songs, I usually start with a piece of lyric and build a melody around it, then just sit back and see where it takes me. This one was really a surprise. I gotta say that I wasn't expecting this at all....
