Some days I get a really folky groove in my bones, and a couple years ago when I wrote this song I was thinking about the interaction of two people as it might relate to substances in nature...in this case, iron and fire. The fire refines and allows the iron to be molded and shaped...and the heat might conversely be accompanied by the cooling of water. Relationships can be both difficult and maddening and reassuring and full of rest and peace. Hence, "Iron and Fire."
