"We might be similar, but we're not the same. And so it's basically just feeding that part of your soul. To not squelch it. To be accepting of it and to nuture it and to let it be. Even if it just becomes a dot on a page, it's your dot."
SONiA and disappear fear
Who is disappear fear? disappear fear is a songwriter, activist and visual artist named SONiA (Rutstein) touring her disappear fear sound in 16 countries and leaving trails of light in her wake. SONiA has received too many awards to mention including the Coin of Honor from the US Army for her humanitarian efforts.
Singing in Hebrew, Spanish, Arabic and of course English, her powerful honesty touches folks of varied social and ethnic backgrounds especially those moving toward a positive World Vision. Having performed in Israel/Palestine, SONiA’s Judaic roots soar in the colors of her songs and paintings.
“Her songs are a vivid celebration of the human spirit in all its infinite manifestations,” wrote Don Kening of the Chicago Daily Herald, adding “her music has a singular sound all its own that makes labeling and categorizing a waste of time.”
disappear fear’s latest album (Broken Film) features SONiA with full band backing and shows that even after 17 albums the indie pop/indie folk activist remains an insightful, potent and razor-sharp chronicler of Life and the human condition whose creative milieu includes Old Time Country, reggae, folk-rock, Americana recorded in Nashville with an approach that captures the early rockier disappear fear sound.”says KUAR Radio host Len Holton in Little Rock, Arkansas.
“When I saw the cover and the back pics, I didn’t know what to expect in terms of music style…I even was pessimistic …I have been surprised and I was wrong because I found a deep sensibility, an eye on life , the songs are really good and Sonia is such a convincing vocalist , she sings with her heart …there is not a single weak moment in that CD, it is a whole , it is very well done both technically and emotionally …some songs better fit my format than the others but as a music lover I really enjoyed this CD.”-Mike from ISA radio
“Although this book is about Bob Dylan, I would like to dedicate it and thank all the singer-songwriters from then til now, Phil Ochs, John Prine, and SoniaRutstein…” -Jim Marshall Legendary Music Photographer
“SONiA performs each gig with the passion and electric energy of an artist on opening night…The result is a beautiful, compelling recording that SONiA performs with palpable confidence. We whole heartedly endorse LiVE at the Down Home” – Larry Flick, Sirius Radio
“…with a voice that is raspy yet pure and lyrics and melodies reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Springsteen, and Joni Mitchell.” -Waiheke Jazz Festival, New Zealand
“With a mix of rhythm and blues to an appealing rickety and sometimes reggae beat, Sonia was a favorite with the large crowd that gathered last week for the International Jazz Festival.” – Robert Matau, The Fiji Times
She is universal and personal all at once. SONiA makes the ability of art to be mirror, confidant, advocate, international observer and participant in the human struggle.”– Reggie Harris -Activist
